This fall, prepare to be captivated by the inaugural KaniniFest! This groundbreaking one-act play festival promises three extraordinary days of immersive performances, exhilarating dance workshops, enchanting drum circles, captivating art installations, and so much more.
Derived from the Indigenous Australian word Kanyini, meaning “oneness,” KaniniFest embodies the profound concept of love, the direct connection to your land, your spirit, your soul, and an undying responsibility and caring. Created by the visionary actors and artists Christopher Alexander Chukwueke and Tenisi Davis, who currently serve as artists-in-residence at the Momentary under the banner of Moja Productions, this festival is a remarkable program tailored specifically for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) playwrights from across the nation. KaniniFest aims to provide a world-class platform for undiscovered, underserved, or up-and-coming BIPOC playwrights.
The festival showcases five exceptional BIPOC playwrights, each presenting their unique one-act plays. While the playwrights hail from various corners of the United States, all directors and actors performing in the festival are talented individuals from the vibrant Northwest Arkansas region.
**Oct 11th - 13th, 2024**
This well-received one-man play has been performed in venues across the country, including at the Douglass home in Washington, DC. The show has been recognized by the NAACP of Fairfield County, CT and made its Klein debut on February 11, 2019, with an encore performance on February 17, 2019. Starring Bridgeport, CT's own TENISI, discover the world of one of the prominent leaders of the abolitionist movement; it's a revealing look at who Frederick Douglass was as a man, beyond him as a historical figure.

"WHAT'S GOOD?!"
What's Good', travels through the experience of gun violence and desperation. It shows that the options that are made readily available and glorified, often lead us to a path of destruction. Pain and suffering is felt on both sides of gun violence, which is symbolically depicted in the simultaneous dialog.
Lives, hopes, and dreams are shattered with just the pull of the trigger. We have to look beyond the emotion and analyze what is the root and come up with efficient and fruitful solutions. It is possible and this vignette is a part of that effort.
"Letters from the Sky" is the story of several young people battling interior and exterior temptations and demons. These characters battle accepting their destiny and obeying their inner voice. Our characters experience moments of joy, love, confusion, anger, hurt, and fear on their way towards forgiveness, patience, and moving beyond their pasts. Their stories are told through both physical beings and consciences. See what happens when man loses his faith and finds himself in bad predicaments!!
